UCC Atheists is a student society in University College Cork, Ireland representing the views of non-religious people.
We were established in 2009, becoming the first such group to be officially recognised at a 3rd level institution in this country.
What we stand for:
- We promote the secular ideal of separation of church and state. We believe that such a society is the only way to guarantee freedom of conscience for all citizens and to eliminate discrimination based on religious privilege.
- We welcome and encourage rigorous challenge and debate on all issues, and recognise that reliable, evidence-based knowledge of the world and ourselves arises through a continuing process of observation, evaluation and revision and not through dogmatic adherance to unalterable texts.
- We call for the actions of people, both individually and collectively, to be based on reason and evidence, not on revealed thruths or assumptions.
- We support democracy and liberty, believe that individual rights should not be limited by traditionalist dogma, and call for the abolition of any practice which interferes with those rights.
